Overview
This tour will take you to some of the best spots for bird watching in Colombia, as well as, learning a little about Colombia's culture and its biodiversity. During each day you will have a professional bird watching guide providing in-depth descriptions of the region and each bird that you will view during the tour.
Day 01: Collection from Pereira or Armenia for a transfer to Salento.
Collected from either Pereira or Armenia in the coffee region for a private transfer to Salento. In the afternoon one of our guides will be showing you this beautiful town and explaining a little more about the traditions and culture of the area. Afterward rest of the evening free.

Day 02: Birdwatching in the Cocora Valley, Afternoon visiting a coffee plantation.
Heading out early for a 6-hour bird watching tour in the territory of the high Colombian mountains. Up here the diversity in birds is very impressive and inhabits over 350 species of birds, moving between the reserve forest areas where they find food and shelter. The presence of the wax palms in some forests allows the sighting of parrots, parakeets, and high mountain toucans, while the seeds of trees such as Sietecueros attract many tanagers, flycatchers, woodpeckers, and seedeaters. Large eagles and small hawks watch from the sky while hurrying antpitta run through the forest floor. Heading back to Salento for lunch (included) and a coffee plantation tour in the afternoon to learn a bit more about one of the most important commodities in the region. Evening free.

Day 03: Free morning. Afternoon heading to Yarumo Blanco, Otun Quimbaya NP.
Morning free to enjoy the town and the many artisanal shops. In the afternoon collected from the hotel for a transfer to Yarumo Blanco. Otun-Quimbaya NP is a flora and fauna sanctuary that was created in 1996 to create a buffer zone between the city of Pereira and Los Nevados NP. The reserve is managed by a local community, who do a magnificent job of taking care of their guests as well as the surrounding cloud forest. This is an excellent location for viewing a variety of unique birds and the howling monkeys. Upon arrival, you will have a little time to relax before a night walk in the reserve. During this walk you will have the chance to view owls, small creates and the activity that happens in this region during the night.

Day 04: Birdwatching in Otun Quimbaya NP and Frailes waterfall. Heading to a hotel near Manizales.
Heading out early in the morning for a bird watching tour in Otun-Quimbaya NP. Here you will have the chance to view a number of different species of birds such as Brown-banded Antpitta (E) Slate-crowned Antpitta, Masked Saltator, White-capped Tanager, Powerful Woodpecker, Crimson-manted Woodpecker, Stripe-headed Brush-Finch, Rusty-faced Parrot, Golden-plumed Parakeet and many more. After about 3-hours you will head back to the hotel for breakfast before heading out to the second walk to los frailes waterfall, searching for the howling monkeys along the way. After lunch, you will be collected from the hotel for a transfer to a coffee farm hotel near Manizales for the following days birding.

Day 05: Birdwatching in Tinamu Natural Park.
Early collection from the hotel for a transfer to the amazing Tinamu Birding Reserve. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by a bird specialist who will show you around. This place is so magic, that even beginners will love the huge variety of birds. The explanations given by the professional English-speaking guide makes the experience even better. With him, you will walk around the birding paths of this reserve. He will help you spot the most special birds and give you all the necessary explanations. Additionally, you will receive a checklist of all birds spotted in the reserve. Therefore, you can easily keep track of which ones you see during this birding tour. Each trail is specifically made for bird watching and there have been at least 260 different bird species spotted in the reserve, distributed in 47 families. Among them, the most numerous families are: flycatchers (Tyrannidae) with 35, tanagers (Thraupidae) with 21, warblers (Parulidae) with 16 species, and hummingbirds (Trochilidae) with 16. Before lunch, you will walk 2 different paths, looking for different species. Afterwards, you will have some time to enjoy the hummingbirds in the feeders next to the main house. Finally, right before it gets dark, you will go for your 3rd walk through a different path to spot birds that are more active at this time of the day. Once you have finished, you will be taken back to your hotel. In the evening you will have a traditional dinner in the hotel.

Day 06: Transfer back to the airport. End of services.
Depending on the time of your flight you will have a chance to enjoy some of the activities the area has to offer such as horse-riding, chocolate workshops, and hikes. Depending on flight details you will be collected from the hotel for a transfer to the airport and connections.
