ITINERARY - BOGOTA/SANTANDER/LOST CITY TREK/SANTA MARTA


Day 1 - Bogota - Monserrate Mountain

 

Your Colombian adventure starts here. Collected from the airport for a private transfer from the airport to the hotel. After a bit of time to relax after the flight collected from the hotel for a tour of Monseratte. Monserrate is located at 3.150 meters / 10.335 feet above sea level and has become a well know symbol of Bogotá that can either be hiked, visited by train or Cable car to the top. Once at the top you will see the gorgeous Sanctuary “El señor caido de Monserrate“ a special sculpture to search for peace and reconciliation. Returning back to the hotel at 5 pm and the rest of the afternoon free.

Day 2 - Hiking the largest waterfall in Colombia and visit the nearby Paramo. 

 

Collected in the morning to hike around the largest waterfall in Colombia, also known as the “Mountain of the Moon” La Chorrera natural park, where Colombia’s tallest waterfall is waiting. Inside La Chorrera Natural Park, you'll visit its first, smaller waterfall, El Chiflón, which is 55 meters tall and adventurers often rappel down its icy fall, before delving deeper into the park. As you advance, learn of the park’s history, the local ecosystem, and recent challenges.

Deeper inside the park, you’ll find La Chorrera: a tiered or stepped 590 meters tall waterfall. This one you can’t rappel down, but you can marvel at! Take in the mighty sight and rest your feet before taking the trail back out of the park.

The hike ends at the town of Choachí, where you’ll be able to join in with some of the locals for a fantastic local lunch before heading back to Bogotá.

Day 3 - Flight to Bucamaranga and transfer to San Gil (the home of adventure sports in Colombia).

 

Early morning flight to Bucaramanga. Stop at Chicamocha Park to ride the cable car which reaches a spectacular 360 view of the valley of Chicamocha Canyon before heading onto Barichara to stay in the beautiful Hotel boutique and spa terra.

Day 4: Moutain biking in the Suarez Canyon and visiting the town of Barichara.

 

In the morning biking to San Gil and the Suarez Canyon, also touring the beautiful town of Barichara by bike. Afternoon free. Other options are available including Paragliding or Abseiling.

Day 5: Rafting the Suarez River which has sections of up to level 5.

 

The characteristics of the rapids on the Suarez river and the volume of water make this river one of the most exciting in Colombia to practice whitewater rafting and kayaking,  with rapids class IV + V; this is especially for people who love the extreme sports. There is another option of a level III river for anyone with less experience.

 

Afternoon free to relax, enjoy the spa and surroundings.

Day 6: Hiking the ancient pathway which connects Barichara and Guane.

 

Hiking to Guane via the Royal Road an ancient pathway that connects Barichara and Guane. Lunch in Guane before heading back to the hotel for a transfer to Bucamaranga in the afternoon.

Day 7: Transfer to the airport and flight to Santa Marta 

 

Collected from the hotel and transferred to the airport for flight to Santa Marta, the afternoon relaxing before the lost city trek.

Day 8: Lost City Trek - Day 1

 

The Excursion to the Lost City begins early in the morning, you will be collected from the hotel and driven 2 hours from the city of Santa Marta, in a 4 × 4 truck that will take you to the mamey sector (Machete Pelao), where you will have lunch and the first indications by the guide to then start with the lost city tour, cataloged as the best Trek in South America.

You will begin with a walk along 7.6 km rural trails until reaching the first camp (Cabin, Adán or Cabin, Alfredo) in this rural region we will be 450 meters above sea level, where you will spend your first night and opportunity to refresh in the crystal clear river and observe the great richness of the flora and fauna of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Some travelers complete the Trekking in 3 hours, others in 5 hours, everything depends on your physical condition and the climatic conditions of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Day 9: Lost City Trek - Day 2 

 

The day requires a Trek of 14.7 km (approximately 10 hours), from the first camp to the second camp (Cabin Paso Lorenzo or Cabin Paraíso Teyuna), Indigenous Community located at an altitude of 830 meters above sea level, here you will be very close to The Lost City Tayrona, Sacred City for native indigenous. During this tour you will pass very close to the Mutanzhi Indigenous Community and appreciate the harmony that indigenous peoples have with nature, you will also observe, much of the fauna and flora of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. In the afternoon you can relax and take a refreshing swim in a beautiful natural pool with the opportunity to jump from 10 meters. At night, the guide will tell you more about The Lost City Teyuna and its sacred meaning for the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, and will also share with you about the history and customs of their community and the region.

Day 10: Lost City Trek - Day 3

 

Begin the day early motivated knowing the ancient indigenous city awaits, breakfast and then depart for The Lost City, during this journey of about 1 km to the sacred city, climbing up 1200 stone steps built by the Ancient Tayrona, to the highest part of the hike 1200 masl, accompanied by the Guide,  you will make the Lost City Tour learning about the different indigenous terraces and sacred sites, taking photographs, enjoying the magical moment of this indigenous architecture, and at approximately 11:00 am, you will return to the camp for lunch and immediately organize the suitcase, to start with the return Trek of 9.6 km (5 hours approximately) until you reach the camp (Wiwa Cabin), Wiwa Indigenous Community where you will have dinner, rest and spend the night.

Day 11: Lost City Trek - Day 4

 

On the last day of adventure, you will have breakfast, then start with the return walk of approximately 12.7 km until reaching the point where everything started (The Mamey), during the descent you will have more time to take pictures and enjoy of a refreshing bath in the river.

Upon arrival at Machete Pelao, you will have lunch and afterward board the Jeep 4 × 4, which will take you very close to the Tayrona national park for a few days of pure relaxation in a hotel set next to the beach.

Relaxing in the hotel close to the beach and the opportunity to visit Tayrona national park or relax in the hotel with an afternoon full of beach and spa.
